What do we do on a Sunday morning when the sun is shining high in the sky? Boat work, of course! With the anticipation of getting our new stove we dreamed of all the great things we could bake; brownies, cookies, lasagna, baked ziti! Mmmm, the possibilities were endless. Then we remembered we would be creating quite a bit of heat in the galley and the blower for that area isn't running perfectly.
GR dug into it, disassembling the blower with ease. It was not a pretty sight covered in rust, dust and grease. Nothing a little degreaser and some greenies couldn't handle though. After we scrubbed them down we applied Ospho. Ever heard of it?
"When applied to rusted surfaces, it resists/retards rust in chemical change on drying to a tough, hard surface ready for priming. A paint job will last longer after an application of OSPHO because subsequent paint coating securely attaches itself so that moisture and oxygen normally do not attack the metal. OSPHO is water-thin, can cover a larger area than paint, and goes on easily. It is equally effective for exterior and interior work alike."
After Ospho, we spray painted the unit. Then GR took the fan motor into his friend in Ft. Lauderdale, a guy he was recently working for repairing these very same units. The fan motor needed replacing so we expect to get the new motor today. After that it's easy peasy! He will pop the motor in and reassemble and voila, the boat will be nice and cold, while we eat our yummy baked goods in the summer time:) Ahh the benefits of power!
All this coming from the kids who lived on their 36' sailboat for 3 years with no A/C & no refrigeration! We feel like we hit the lottery!
